A Woodstock man, Aaron Andre Brooks, is in legal trouble for an accident earlier this year near Sprayberry High School. Brooks, 19, was arrested on Tuesday in connection to a fatal crash on June 3 that claimed the life of 56-year-old Zhi Zhang.
The arrest warrant alleges that Brooks was traveling at a staggering 94-mph in a 45-mph zone while heading westbound in a 2012 Jeep Liberty along Piedmont Road on April 29. Brooks reportedly lost control of his vehicle, veered into the eastbound lanes of traffic, and collided with Zhang’s Chevrolet Colorado at the intersection of Bob Bettis and Piedmont Roads in northeast Cobb County.
Following the crash, law enforcement officers conducted an examination of the Jeep’s airbag control module, which revealed that the Jeep had been traveling at 94 mph approximately 5 seconds before colliding with the Chevrolet Colorado.
Brooks faces a range of charges, including a felony charge for first-degree vehicular homicide, as well as misdemeanors for speeding, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lanes.
Cobb County Sheriff’s Deputies took Brooks into custody at his residence in Woodstock. He is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
