Share

The annual Historical Black College and University (HBCU) National Championship game is set to showcase the conference champions from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in Atlanta.

This year’s clash for ultimate HBCU bragging rights features Howard University and Florida A&M University. The 2024 Celebration Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 16, at noon.

The championship game serves as a culmination of football excellence, celebrating the rich tradition and talent within Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Florida A&M (FAMU) earned their spot in Atlanta by triumphing over Prairie View A&M with a decisive 35-14 victory in the SWAC title game on Saturday, Dec. 2.

With an impressive 11-1 overall record, the Rattlers’ sole loss occurred nearly three months ago during a 38-24 defeat against the University of South Florida in Tampa on Sept. 9. This championship marks FAMU’s first since joining the SWAC two seasons ago, following a storied history in the MEAC.

Howard University concluded their regular season with a 6-5 overall record, boasting a 4-1 standing in MEAC play. The Bison’s lone conference loss came against South Carolina State University, the 2021 Celebration Bowl champions, in a hard-fought 27-24 battle on Nov. 4.

Building on the success of the previous year’s matchup, which featured North Carolina Central and Jackson State University, the anticipation for this year’s Celebration Bowl is heightened as thousands of fans are expected to converge on downtown Atlanta for the memorable game.

The Celebration Bowl has been a staple in Atlanta since 2015, initially hosted inside the Georgia Dome and now taking place in the iconic Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
