A Lithia Springs woman, Eugenia Ferrier Lawrence, was arrested this week for allegedly causing a crash in South Cobb in July that killed a man. Lawrence was charged with vehicular homicide, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving under the influence of drugs, and failing to maintain the lane in the crash that killed Baraa Abdulmonem.
Police said that on July 27 at 3:41 p.m., Abdulmonem, 22, was driving eastbound along Fontaine Road, east of Floyd Road, when 37-year-old Lawrence, driving in a Nissan Maxima westbound on Fontaine Road, collided with Abdulmonem’s vehicle.
Officials say that Lawrence was unable to negotiate a right curve in the roadway when she crossed over the double yellow lines hitting the victim. Abdulmonem was transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital by ambulance and died from his injuries at the hospital.
With minor injuries, Lawrence was also transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital and consented to blood and urine tests as she was being treated.
The warrant for Lawrence’s arrest states that the police were unclear at the time of the accident as to why she failed to maintain her lane.
Hospital tests revealed that she was under the influence of THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, Venlafaxine, and Lamotrigine “to a degree which rendered her a less safe driver.”
Lawrence is being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond.
