Keep Smyrna Beautiful to host Shred Fest event

Share

Keep Smyrna Beautiful (KSB) is inviting the public to join them for their biannual community document shredding event “Shred Fest” on Saturday, September 9th.

KSB is hosting this event as part of its continuing efforts to take proactive steps to reduce paper waste generated by residents and other community members while offering a secure and eco-friendly solution for document shredding and recycling.

KSB Everyone from the community is welcome to participate in this event, which will run from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Aline Wolfe Adult Recreation Center, 884 Church Street SE, Smyrna, GA 30080.

It’s important to note that this shredding event is open to the public, and you don’t need to be a Smyrna resident to take part.

Here are some details you should know before you go to the shredding event:

ACCEPTED ITEMS

This event is for paper only. Participants can bring up to 5 copy paper-sized boxes of documents. All binders, clips, and folders must be removed prior.

DETAILS ON THE PROCESS

Attendees of this event will be asked to stay in their vehicles for safety and efficiency. Volunteers will collect documents from each vehicle and put them to large receptacles. When full, the contents of the receptacle are dumped into a shredding truck onsite. While all shredding is done onsite, you will not necessarily be able to see your specific documents being shredded, as they will be mixed in with the documents of other people.

DONATIONS ACCEPTED

There is no charge for the event but donations are collected on-site. You can donate online before or after the event to help them continue to provide the community resource.

Since its inception in 2009, the event has made a significant impact, diverting an estimated 243,000 pounds of paper away from landfills. In 2021 alone, they recycled over 35,000 pounds of documents.
