Hit-and-run leaves moped rider hospitalized in Smyrna

According to the Cobb County Police Department, a hit-and-run incident in Smyrna resulted in serious injuries to a moped rider.
The accident occurred on a Saturday around 1:53 p.m. on Smyrna Powder Springs Road near its intersection with Vineyard Way.
Police say that a 31-year-old Marietta man was traveling east on Smyrna Powder Springs Road on a black moped when a vehicle turned left from Vineyard Way, intersecting the path of the moped.
This maneuver caused the moped rider to skid and overturn, and the other vehicle subsequently ran over both the moped and the rider. The driver of the other vehicle then fled the scene, heading west on Smyrna Powder Springs Road towards Benson Poole Road.
The injured moped rider was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Authorities suspect that the vehicle involved in the collision may be a Jeep, with possible undercarriage damage. It might have been abandoned or left in the vicinity of the crash.
