Marietta attorney and Georgia lawmaker Bert Reeves is leaving the General Assembly to join the Georgia Institute of Technology. The school announced that Reeves, who is a state representative, as well as Gov. Brian Kemp’s floor leader, will become the university’s vice-president of university relations. This cabinet-level position will have Reeves reporting directly to President Angel Cabrera effective May 1.
Reeves replaces Lynn Durham, who was named the new president and CEO of Georgia CORE (Center for Oncology Research and Education) in December 2020.
A representative for parts of Marietta and Kennesaw for over seven years, Reeves plans to resign his House seat effective April 30. To fill the vacancy, Gov. Kemp will call a special election that will be held between 30 days and 60 days of Kemp calling for the election.
