Smyrna Appoints New Police Chief

Share

The Smyrna Mayor and City Council gave their full support to Keith Zgonc as they recently named him the city’s newest Police Chief. Zgonc, who previously worked with Smyrna PD, returns to the City after serving for five years as the Deputy Chief of Police for the City of Sandy Springs.

Zgonc has a 29-year career in law enforcement, which began in 1991 with the Smyrna PD, where he reached the rank of Captain before departing for the Sandy Springs Police force.

Chief Zgonc is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the FBI National Academy. He sits on the Academy’s Georgia Chapter Executive Board. The new Chief replaces former Police Chief Joseph Bennett who was appointed to serve as the City Administrator, which left the Police Chief position vacant.
