Community Gears Up as Search for Missing Professor Resumes in Union County

Share

UNION COUNTY, GA — Hope and determination remain high as the search for law professor Charles Hosch resumes in the rugged terrain of Union County. Hosch, an attorney and SMU law professor, has been missing since November 11 after going hiking on the Byron Herbert Reece Trail in the Blood Mountain area.

The vast, wooded area has made locating Hosch extremely difficult, and drones and searchers have struggled to find any trace. Despite two weeks of fruitless searches and the official suspension of the search on November 24, family members refuse to give up hope.

A message posted on Saturday brought renewed optimism: “The momentum continues. We’ve welcomed another nonprofit search and rescue organization to our efforts, and by Monday, we’ll have expanded teams in the field.” Volunteers from multiple organizations are joining the search, combing the challenging terrain and coordinating efforts to cover more ground.

For Hosch’s family, the wait has been agonizing. Local residents and the hiking community have also rallied, offering support, guidance, and resources to aid the search. “We’re not giving up,” a family member said. “Every day brings hope that we’ll find him safe.”

Community members who wish to help or stay updated can visit the dedicated search website for information on volunteer efforts and ways to support the ongoing operation.

The search for Hosch has become a shared mission, uniting residents, volunteers, and family members in a collective effort to bring him home safely.
