Cobb County school teacher shot and killed by estranged husband

Share

A tragic incident that unfolded this week in Paulding County resulted in the death of a Cobb County teacher after her estranged husband broke into her home twice. Officials said that Tyron Lambert, 42, fatally shot Jasmyn Lambert, 37, after forcing his way into her home twice in the span of a few hours.

Jasmyn was a mother of two and a third-grade teacher at Still Elementary in West Cobb. The Cobb County School District said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and the entire Still community who already miss her. Grief counselors are at school this week to support students and staff and we do ask you to give our school family privacy during this time of grief.”

During the first break-in, Lambert allegedly forced his way into the victim’s home at 162 Topaz Drive just after midnight on Saturday. A 911 caller told dispatchers Tyron Lambert entered the back door of the house and, while there, pointed a gun at and threatened multiple people inside the home.

Lambert then fled after he learned someone had called the police. Paulding County Sheriff’s Deputies responded, placed the residence on zone patrol, and put out an alert on Lambert and his vehicle. Just after 7 a.m. on Saturday, another 911 caller reported Lambert had returned to Jasmyn’s residence, again forcing his way through the back door and armed with a gun.

Deputies “immediately responded to the scene but were too late. As they got to the home, they heard a gunshot. Deputies apprehended Lambert as he tried to flee on foot at the back of the home. Jasmyn was transported to Wellstar Paulding Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Lambert is charged with malice murder, murder-family violence, home invasion, criminal damage to property, two counts of cruelty to children, criminal trespass, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, two counts of aggravated assault, and obstruction of justice.

He is being held at the Paulding County jail without bond. The Paulding Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the case to call their tip line at 770-443-3047.
