An Austell man, Anthony Sarfo, was arrested on Wednesday morning in connection with a hit-and-run incident that occurred west of Sweetwater Creek, resulting in serious injuries to a man and a woman from Austell.
According to the Cobb County police, the incident unfolded when Austell resident Deborah Wright, 63, had come to a stop with her 2005 Honda Accord in the southbound lane of Cardell Road due to vehicle-related problems around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Austell resident Keith Paine, 53, who resides near the location where Wright’s car was stopped, had been assisting her at the time. Sarfo, 43, allegedly crashed a 2008 Lexus 460 into the left rear side of Wright’s Honda and left the scene.
Police reports say Paine sustained severe injuries during the crash, as he was hit by either the Honda or the Lexus. Wright, who was in the driver’s seat of the Honda with the driver’s door open and her legs extended outside the vehicle, also sustained serious injuries in the collision.
Emergency services responded to the scene and transported Paine to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, while Wright was transported to Grady Hospital. Despite his injuries, Paine provided crucial information about the suspect vehicle before being taken to the hospital. This information allowed Cobb County Police Precinct 2 officers to locate the Lexus at a residence on Malvin Drive in Austell.
Sarfo was taken into custody but was first transported to Cobb Hospital due to injuries sustained in the incident before being taken to the Cobb Adult Detention Center. Cobb Sheriff’s Office records show that charges against Sarfo are pending.
The collision remains under investigation. Authorities are requesting anyone with additional information about the crash to contact investigators at 770-499-3987.
