Another sewage overflow into the Chattahoochee River

Share

The Cobb County Water System issued a recent press release regarding a wastewater sewer overflow incident on Feb. 12. Approximately 360 gallons of sewage overflowed at 5710 River View Road in Mableton due to solids, discharging into a tributary of the Chattahoochee River. The Water System was informed of the overflow at 2:44 p.m. on Feb. 12 and successfully halted it by 5:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, Water System employees observed a manhole spilling sewage with the lid secured, resulting in a 20-foot by 10-foot affected area leading to a tributary of the Chattahoochee River. Fortunately, no fish kills were observed during their onsite assessment. To address the issue, a jet machine was employed to alleviate the sewer line, and lime was spread on the affected area.
