Acworth Man sentenced to life in prison for raping 15-year-old girl

Cobb District Attorney Flynn Broady’s office announced that an Acworth man, Anthony David Johnson, was sentenced last week to life in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl last summer.

Johnson pled guilty to three counts of aggravated sodomy and was sentenced to life in prison, with 25 years to serve behind bars before he is eligible for parole.

According to the warrant for Johnson’s arrest and the Cobb DA’s office, information on the assault of the victim came to the Cobb Police Department on July 23, 2022, when they met with a woman who said her 15-year-old daughter was raped by a man in their neighborhood. Shortly thereafter, the department’s Special Victims Unit interviewed the victim who confirmed the assault. The victim said that Johnson lived in her neighborhood and had called out to her when she was walking through the neighborhood sometime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on July 23. She told police she went over to Johnson’s residence and went inside. At some point when she tried to leave, he grabbed her by the throat, threw her on the bed and sexually assaulted her.

Investigators confirmed that the girl had injuries consistent with sexual assault, and that Johnson’s DNA was present.

Johnson was initially arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated sodomy, rape and false imprisonment. He was later indicted on three counts of aggravated sodomy.
