Dr. Mary Chatman, the Executive Vice President of Acute Care Operations for Wellstar Health System, has been elected as the Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Hospital Association. With her extensive leadership experience, Dr. Chatman is poised to lead the board in developing strategies for the association’s nearly 150 member hospitals across the state.
Dr. Chatman has been serving on the board since February 2020 and is recognized for her strong advocacy for patients. In her role as Executive Vice President at Wellstar, she oversees the operations of 11 hospitals, post-acute services, and emergency departments.
Notably, in 2020, she played a pivotal role in the opening of Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center’s emergency department, the largest in the Southeast.
Before her tenure at Wellstar, Dr. Chatman served as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where she managed the 654-bed hospital and its nursing operations.
Chatman’s contributions extend beyond her roles in healthcare, as she was appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp to the state’s Healthcare Workforce Commission in 2021, addressing the hiring and retention of healthcare workers statewide. Dr. Chatman is also a member of the United Community Bank board, the American Nurses Association, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
