We Thrive on Riverside Renters Association hosts community update meeting

A meeting with members of the Riverside community was recently held at the Premier Learning Academy located on Riverside Parkway in Austell/Mableton. 

The meeting was organized and hosted by the We Thrive on Riverside Renters Association and focused on the Six Flags Drive area. 

The meeting covered a range of topics and provided residents with valuable information and resources for their neighborhood. Notable elected officials in attendance included Georgia State Representative HD39 Terry Cummings, Cobb County School Board Representative Leroy Tre Hutchins, and Mableton City Councilman Ron Davis.

The Six Flags Drive area has boundaries with 65 percent renter-occupied residences and is primarily inhabited by a 75 percent African-American population.

Attendance Area Schools include Riverside Elementary School (80 percent), City View Elementary School (20 percent), Lindley Middle School, Betty Grey Middle School, and Pebblebrook High School.

Representatives from the Cobb County Police Department, Captain Best, and Officer Lyle, provided updates on public safety and encouraged residents to be proactive and connect with neighbors as they announced upcoming community events.

State Representative Terry Cummings discussed legislative updates and shared resources related to mental health awareness while Cobb County Public Health Director Lisa Crossman gave updates on Covid-19 and informed residents about the proposed health center to be built on the former Magnolia Crossing Property on Riverside Parkway.

Monica DeLancy from We Thrive on Riverside Renters Association shared information about code enforcement, rental assistance resources, and Christmas assistance. The next community meeting is planned as a Zoom meeting and is scheduled for the 3rd Sunday in October.

The meeting, which was open to the public, included residents living near Riverside Parkway. The Premier Apartment complex had the highest attendance with residents from various nearby apartment complexes also participating including Silver Creek Crossing Apartments, Residence of Riverside Apartments, Azure Apartments/The Pines Apartments, 300 Riverside Apartments, Cielo 35 Apartments, 575 Riverside Apartments, Cobb Townhomes Apartments, Parcton Apartments, Sierra Forrest/Mableton Ridge Apartments, Cielo-Vinnings Westwood Apartments, Anderson Mill Apartments, Oak Hill Townhome Community, and Flagstone Community.
