Toyota is recalling approximately 280,000 pickup trucks and SUVs in the United States to address a transmission issue that could allow the vehicles to move forward while in neutral. The recall includes specific models:
- Toyota Tundra pickups from the model years 2022 through 2024.
- Lexus LX 600 SUVs from the model years 2022 through 2024.
- Toyota Sequoia SUVs from the model years 2023 and 2024.
The problem identified by Toyota involves certain components of the automatic transmissions that may not immediately disengage when the vehicle is shifted into neutral. This could result in the transfer of engine power to the wheels, causing the vehicles to move forward at low speeds on flat surfaces if the brakes are not applied.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail, and Toyota dealerships will inspect and repair the transmission as necessary. The recall is part of Toyota’s commitment to addressing safety concerns and ensuring the proper functioning of its vehicles on the road. Owners are encouraged to contact Toyota customer service or their local dealership for more information and to schedule any needed repairs.
