The Cobb County Democracy Center and Powder Springs Community Task Force hosts recent candidate forum

The Cobb County Democracy Center and the Powder Springs Community Task Force joined forces to organize a recent candidate forum held in the City of Powder Springs. This forum provided a platform for candidates running for Mayor and City Council positions to address the community.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Dr. Monica Willis Brown, the Cobb County Democracy Center reaffirmed its commitment to voter advocacy, literacy, and education within the Cobb County community in preparation for the November 2023 General Election.

The candidates who participated in the forum included incumbent Mayor Al Thurman and challenger Larry Thomas. Powder Springs has two city-wide positions up for election, both with single candidates. In the at-large Post 1, incumbent Patrick Bordelon chose not to seek re-election, and Dwight McMutry is running for the At-large Post 1 seat. Incumbent Patricia Wisdom is running for re-election to the At-large Post 2 seat.

During the forum, the candidates fielded questions from moderators and had the opportunity to present their qualifications and reasons for seeking office. More than sixty citizens from the Powder Springs community attended the forum and actively participated by asking questions of the candidates.
