Tennis star Coco Gauff has donated $100,000 to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to help fund scholarships for students playing competitive tennis at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The UNCF will manage the scholarship program, which will be known as the Coco Gauff Scholarship Program.
Said Gauff, “My family has a deep-rooted history with HBCUs, going all the way back to my great-great-grandfather. From aunts and uncles to cousins, HBCUs have played a huge role in shaping who we are,” Gauff shared. “Supporting UNCF in creating opportunities for student-athletes in tennis means a lot to me. As a young Black athlete, I understand how impactful it is to see people who look like me thriving in both sports and education.”
Gauff, who was born in Atlanta, but now lives in Florida, made history in 2023 by winning the U.S. Open singles title and the 2024 French Open women’s doubles championship. Currently ranked No. 3 in the WTA, Gauff continues to be a trailblazer in both tennis and community advocacy.
Her generous contribution to UNCF underscores Coco’s commitment to supporting the next generation of student-athletes and fostering growth within the HBCU community.
