Share

The Cobb County Water System has reported three separate sewage overflows that occurred between February 1 and February 3, 2025. Each incident resulted in wastewater discharge into local water bodies.

  1. February 1, 2025 – Marietta (4500 Karls Gate Drive NE):
An estimated 1,110-gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred at 4500 Karls Gate Drive, discharging into the Timber Ridge Branch. The spill left a 10-foot by 25-foot trail leading to a nearby lake, which eventually feeds into the Timber Ridge Branch. The crew used a jet machine to clear the obstruction and spread lime to treat the affected area.
  2. February 2, 2025 – Marietta (2442 Spring Lake Drive):
A 240-gallon wastewater overflow was reported at 2442 Spring Lake Drive, discharging into a tributary to Sewell Mill Creek. The overflow left a 10-foot by 20-foot trail leading to a private pond that feeds into the tributary. The crew took corrective measures using a jet machine and lime treatment.
  3. February 3, 2025 – Smyrna (4941 South Cobb Drive):
A 400-gallon sewage overflow occurred at 4941 South Cobb Drive, discharging into a tributary that leads to Nickajack Creek. The overflow left a 15-foot by 15-foot trail into the tributary. The crew applied a jet machine to clear the blockage and spread lime in the affected area.

In all three incidents, no fish kills were observed, and efforts were made to treat the affected areas with lime to minimize environmental impact. These latest spills add to the large number of spills that have been reported over the last two months, which has many residents concerned about what is going on at the Cobb Water System.
