Super Bowl returns to Atlanta in 2028

Share

In a significant announcement, Atlanta will host the Super Bowl for the fourth time, with Super Bowl 62 set to take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in February 2028. This marks the second Super Bowl held at the stadium, which last hosted the game on February 3, 2019.

The announcement came during the NFL owners’ annual meeting at the Whitley Hotel in Buckhead, with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressing optimism for the event. “Congratulations to Atlanta. This community deserves this,” Goodell stated.

This upcoming Super Bowl will be Atlanta’s fourth overall, following games held in the Georgia Dome in 1994 and 2000, as well as the 2019 event. The decision to award Atlanta the Super Bowl reflects a shift in sentiment among NFL owners, especially given the past rejections of the city’s bids for the 2009 and 2010 games due to concerns about weather conditions.

The return of the Super Bowl is part of a broader trend, with Atlanta recently being awarded several other major sporting events, including the 2031 NCAA Men’s Final Four and hosting matches for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The city’s ability to host large-scale events, along with the strategic location of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, has made it a prime venue for the NFL and other major sports organizations.
