In a significant development for the upcoming election, Georgia has surpassed 1 million early votes cast, as reported by Gabriel Sterling, chief deputy to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. The milestone was reached just before noon on the fourth day of early in-person voting, with turnout exceeding 1.1 million by late afternoon.
This surge in voter participation coincides with ongoing campaigns from both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, who are treating Georgia as a critical battleground state. Harris is scheduled to be in Atlanta today, following a recent Trump rally in Cobb County.
Georgia’s 8.2 million registered voters are benefiting from at least 16 days of early in-person voting leading up to the Nov. 5 general election. Some counties are also offering additional Sunday voting options. The final day for early in-person voting is set for Nov. 1, just days before Election Day.
The implications of this early turnout on the presidential race and down-ballot contests remain to be seen, but the increased engagement indicates a heightened interest among voters in this closely contested election.
