A Smyrna man, Talmadge Leroy Roberson, was arrested last week and charged with murder in the shooting death of Roennell Cherry, a local barber and the father of two. The shooting happened at an Austell home.
Roberson was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault, jail records show. He was booked into the Cobb County jail, where he was being held without bond Thursday afternoon.
“Said accused did discharge a firearm into the torso and leg of the victim causing the victim to suffer pain, visible injuries, and internal injuries which ultimately led to the death of the victim,” the warrant states.
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, following a previous conviction in Cobb for aggravated assault and home invasion, Roberson served just over four years before being released from prison last July.
The victim, Cherry, was a local barber well known for his hair cuts. Cherry also went by the nickname “Meat.” A GoFundMe page has been created for Cherry’s family to assist with his burial.
