Smyrna man arrested after doorbell video reveals him assaulting dog

Share

James Moses, a resident of Smyrna, has been arrested and booked into the Cobb County jail following a disturbing incident captured by a doorbell video. The footage allegedly showed Moses, 32, throwing his girlfriend’s dog at the ceiling of an apartment complex.

According to his police warrant, Moses launched the three-year-old, 10-pound Jack Russell terrier approximately seven feet high “at a high rate of speed” into the ceiling within a hallway at the Elevate West Village Apartments in Smyrna on the morning of September 18th.

The warrant further states, “The accused did pick up the dog and carry it to his apartment. The dog appeared to be knocked out as it wasn’t moving.”

Moses was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon and was held at the Cobb Adult Detention Center, with his bail set at $8,470. Notably, he was able to post bail roughly an hour after his arrest, according to jail records.

The dog’s owner entrusted her pet to Moses, and she was devastated upon learning of the incident.

Steve Hammond, the director of Cobb Animal Services, expressed strong condemnation for the actions, stating, “there’s no excuse in the world for this.” Hammond emphasized the seriousness of such cruelty towards animals, suggesting that anyone capable of harming an animal could potentially harm a person as well.
