Share

Kelly Michael Holcomb has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following his conviction on multiple charges, including assault, after he attacked guests and a police officer at an Acworth motel. A Cobb County jury found Holcomb guilty of several felonies, leading Cobb Superior Court Judge Jason Marbutt to impose a 20-year sentence, with the first 15 years to be served in prison.

The incident occurred on December 17, 2022, when Acworth police responded to a report of a naked man, later identified as Holcomb, assaulting people at the Deerfield Lodge near Lake Acworth Drive and Interstate 75. Police initially attempted to calm Holcomb, but he quickly became involved in a physical altercation with another individual. Subsequently, Holcomb attacked the police officer, causing serious injuries, including the loss of one of the officer’s front teeth. Holcomb strangled the officer and attempted to gouge her eyes with his thumbs.

Prior to the incident, Holcomb had broken into a motel room and attacked a woman and a man inside, resulting in severe injuries to the woman and minor injuries to the man. It was later revealed that Holcomb had smoked methamphetamine prior to the assault.

Holcomb was convicted on the following charges:

  • One count of aggravated battery on a peace officer
  • One count of aggravated assault on a peace officer
  • Two counts of aggravated battery
  • One count of aggravated assault
  • Two counts of obstruction of an officer
  • One count of first-degree burglary
  • One count of misdemeanor battery

Judge Marbutt also issued a no-contact order between Holcomb and the victims as part of the sentencing.
