A Smyrna resident, Louie Hamilton, is facing accusations of abandoning a dog to die after it was struck by a car.
According to an arrest warrant, Hamilton, 57, allegedly took custody of a two-year-old white pit bull after the owner left the dog with him at a Smyrna residence.
The dog had been involved in a vehicular incident a week before the incident was reported. Hamilton informed the police that he left the injured dog on his porch to perish. Subsequently, he surrendered the dog, which was then transported to Cobb County Animal Services for euthanasia.
Hamilton was arrested on December 14 on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. Jail records show he was released on a $5,000 bond.
