Public asked to honor Dr. Samantha Banton-Woolery’s memory via GoFundMe, as details emerge about slain doctor’s death

A GoFundMe account has been established to honor Dr. Samantha Banton-Woolery, a surgery resident from the Morehouse School of Medicine who was tragically killed last week in her Marietta apartment by her ex-husband. Dr. Woolery was discovered with multiple stab wounds by her boss who ame to ger home after she failed to show up for work.

Naeema Woolery, Dr. Woolery’s daughter, started the GoFundMe page to help pay for her mother’s funeral expenses. She wrote:

“Dear Friends and Family, It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of my beloved mother, Dr. Samantha Banton-Woolery. She was a wonderful person who touched the lives of everyone she met with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. She was brutally murdered the night of June 15th in her home in Marietta, Georgia.”

Although the initial goal for the GoFundMe was $5,000, the campaign has already raised over $50,000 thanks to generous contributions from the public.

As the community continues to support this cause, new details have emerged about her death. According to the police, a bloody machete and a fingerprint led investigators to arrest Dr. Woolery’s ex-husband, Mickey Anthony Woolery, from Carmel, Indiana. He has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a weapon in the commission of a crime. Surveillance footage captured Mickey Woolery leaving his ex-wife’s apartment shirtless and with blood on his hand, feet, and pants just before midnight on June 15. A bloody fingerprint matching Mickey Woolery’s right thumb was found near a light switch in the apartment, and a blood-stained machete was discovered next to Dr. Woolery’s bed. Police noted that blood was also tracked from the bedroom to the apartment’s front door.

Mickey Woolery fled to Carmel, Indiana, where he was apprehended by Marietta Police and Carmel SWAT. Efforts are underway to extradite him to Georgia to face charges.
