A Philadelphia woman, Keiyotta India Cooper, who was indicted in August for murder in the fatal stabbing of a man at a Marietta motel in late June, has been extradited from Virginia to Cobb.
Jail records show that Cooper, 30, was taken into custody by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.
According to the Marietta Police Department, Cooper stands accused of fatally stabbing 37-year-old Dearish Morris at the Hospitality Inn, located on Delk Road near I-75, on June 21st.
The incident took place around 4 p.m., while Cooper was visiting Morris in his motel room. The motive behind the stabbing remains unknown.
Cooper allegedly stabbed Morris multiple times and then concealed his body when a motel staff member knocked on the door for rent collection. Following the incident, Cooper fled the state, taking a vehicle that Morris had borrowed.
The motel staff later discovered Morris’s body and promptly called 911. Officers were dispatched to the hotel around 10 p.m.
The vehicle’s owner used GPS to track it, leading to its location in Virginia, where authorities apprehended Cooper later that evening. Deputies in Caroline County, Virginia, detained Cooper and subsequently informed Marietta detectives that they had her in custody.
Cooper now faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and theft by taking, with the latter charge related to the alleged theft of the car that Morris had borrowed. She is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
