A motorist was shot and injured by a Cobb County police officer after the driver reportedly reached for a gun during a traffic stop.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, who is investigating the incident, said the motorist who was shot is in stable condition and no officers were injured.
Police said that around 10:22 pm, they pulled over Kenny Ezekiel, 31, of Atlanta, on Interstate 75 southbound near Delk Road. According to the GBI, while approaching the vehicle, the officer observed that Ezekiel had a gun in his waistband.
The officer told Ezekiel not to reach for the gun, but he pulled the gun from his waistband and the officer shot him. After the shooting, Ezekiel threw his gun out of the driver’s side window onto the interstate. First aid was given to Ezekiel until he could be transported via ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.
Once the independent investigation is completed by the GBI, findings will be sent to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
