Cobb County District Attorney Flynn Broady Jr. announced that a Marietta man, Hamilton Romeo Dominguez, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for molesting two girls.
Following a six-day trial, a Cobb County jury found Dominguez, 43, guilty of four counts of child molestation. Superior Court Judge Kellie Hill sentenced Dominguez to 10 years in prison followed by eight years on probation.
Broady’s office said that in 2017, a 7-year-old told her mother that Dominguez molested her when she was five and six years old. At the time of the molestation, the victim and her family lived with Dominguez in Cobb County, Georgia.
During forensic interviews, the victim said she viewed the defendant as a father figure and described the molestation that occurred when he would watch her while her mother was at work.
Detectives with the Cobb police’s Special Victims Unit also learned the girl confided in her friend, a 9-year-old girl, about the molestation.
While interviewing the friend, detectives learned that she was also molested by Dominguez on one occasion when she and her family visited the home overnight.
Both girls, now 13 and 15, testified during the trial about what happened to them. One of them testified she felt “disgusting” because of this incident, and both girls testified that this has changed them and will affect them for the rest of their lives. Detective Anibal Lopez with the Cobb police SVU investigated the case.
Assistant District Attorneys Kristen Judd and Rachel Plevak prosecuted the case on behalf of the state. Judd said, “I am thankful to the jury for rendering their verdict so these two young ladies could receive some semblance of closure for what was done to them.”
Upon his release from prison, Dominguez must abide by sex offender conditions of probation and register as a sex offender.
