A Norcross man, Donovan Tavves Carter, has been arrested in connection with the Wednesday morning shooting death of 40-year-old Kenneth Cunningham II at the Harlow apartments on Cobb Parkway in Smyrna.
According to a warrant for Carter’s arrest, the 33-year-old is accused of luring Cunningham to a specific location within the apartment complex before allegedly shooting him multiple times with a semiautomatic handgun as Cunningham attempted to flee.
The motive is reported to be related to Cunningham dating Carter’s former girlfriend, who is not considered a suspect in the case.
Marietta Police revealed that Carter disguised himself as a delivery driver to entice Cunningham out of his Harlow apartment. The incident prompted a response from officers of the Cobb, Marietta, and Smyrna police departments, along with deputies from the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.
They arrived at the Harlow apartments around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday following reports of a shooting.
Carter was apprehended at 4105 Bradford Walk Trail in Buford, 12 hours after the incident, by officers from the Marietta Police Department. He was arrested in a vehicle in Gwinnett County after authorities announced they were seeking a “slender male” around six feet tall in connection to the shooting.
Carter faces charges including malice murder, murder in the commission of a felony, aggravated assault with intent to murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
