A tragic hit-and-run incident occurred in Mableton on Monday night, resulting in the death of a 60-year-old man.
Kristopher Johnson, a 30-year-old man from Kennesaw, turned himself into Cobb police on Wednesday in connection with the incident.
Johnson is charged with hit and run in relation to the death of 60-year-old Artie Dumas, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. at Floyd Road and Maran Lane, near the Mable House Arts Center.
Cobb police had been actively seeking information about the driver involved in the fatal hit and run that claimed the life of the pedestrian before Johnson turned himself into authorities.
The initial investigation revealed that the pedestrian was crossing Floyd Road outside the marked crosswalk at the time of the incident. Simultaneously, a vehicle, later identified as a Hyundai Elantra, was heading north on Floyd Road, approaching Maran Lane, when it struck the pedestrian.
According to witness accounts, the driver of the unknown vehicle, allegedly Johnson, briefly stopped before fleeing the scene of the collision. Tragically, Artie Dumas suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
After turning himself in, Johnson posted a $25,000 bond and was released from the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
