Honda is recalling over 750,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a faulty sensor that may cause the front passenger airbags to inflate incorrectly. The recall affects certain Honda and Acura models from the 2020 through 2022 model years.
The affected models include Honda Pilot, Accord, Civic sedan, HR-V, Odyssey, Fit, Civic Coupe, Civic hatchback, Civic Type R, Insight, CR-V, CR-V Hybrid, Passport, Ridgeline, Accord Hybrid, and Acura MDX, RDX, and TLX.
The issue involves the front passenger seat weight sensor, which may crack and short circuit, leading to a failure to turn off the airbag as intended. This poses a risk, especially if children or small adults are in the seats, as the airbags may not be disabled when necessary.
The recall is set to begin on March 18, with dealers replacing the seat sensors at no cost to owners.
As of the recall announcement, Honda has reported 3,834 warranty claims related to the problem, but no injuries or deaths have been reported. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified starting March 18 about the recall.
If your Honda is one of the recalled vehicles, Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors, free of charge, federal safety regulators said. Owners can contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.
