Cobb District Attorney Flynn Broady Jr. announced that a jury has found an Austell man, Sony Lebrun, 37, guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Charges stem from a road rage incident on August 6, 2021, in Austell. The victim, Eric Stone, and Lebrun had an ongoing dispute.
On the day of the incident, Cobb County Police responded to multiple calls reporting shots fired and a vehicle crashing into the gate at the Premier Lane Apartments off Riverside Parkway in Austell.
Upon arrival, they discovered Stone in the driver’s seat with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses at the scene indicated they believed Lebrun was responsible.
During the investigation, Lebrun denied any knowledge of the shooting in an interview with authorities. However, his phone’s location data placed him at the crime scene. Surveillance videos from various locations also confirmed his presence at the time of the shooting.
Witnesses, who were with the victim, provided descriptions consistent with Lebrun.
DA Broady praised the conviction, stating that it serves as a testament to the dedication of the staff and the tireless efforts of law enforcement in safeguarding the community.
Sentencing for Lebrun is scheduled for a later date.
