First week of early voting done in Cobb County

Share

The main election day for Cobb municipal elections is set for Tuesday, November 7, but many citizens are taking advantage of early voting to avoid potential lines on Election Day or unexpected time constraints that could impact them if they waited until election day.

Cobb’s first week of early voting saw voters going to the polls for municipal elections in Smyrna, Acworth, Austell, Kennesaw, and Powder Springs. As of the close of voting on Thursday, more than 1,000 ballots have already been cast in these five city elections.

Depending on the city, voters are electing mayors and council members. When selecting a candidate, the residents we have spoken to have expressed the importance of transparency, communication, and citizen input when they look at the candidates running for office. Many say that they are doing their civic duty by voting, but are also taking it a step further by reminding their friends and neighbors to go out and vote.

In agreement with these citizens is Gerry Miller, the interim elections director for Cobb. “Voting is of utmost importance in shaping our communities”, said Miller. He emphasized to Cobb voters that Friday, October 27, is the final day to request an absentee ballot.

Miller is also reminding voters that as they go to a polling location to vote that they need at least one form of photo identification to vote in person.

Each city in Cobb with elections is providing one early voting location, which is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until November 3, with additional hours on Saturday, October 21, and Saturday, October 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Registered voters can cast their ballots at any of the early voting locations, as listed below:

  • Acworth: Robert’s School Community & Education Center, 4681 School St.
  • Austell: Collar Park Community Center, 2625 Joe Jerkins Blvd
  • Kennesaw: Ben Roberts Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive
  • Powder Springs: Ron Anderson Recreation Center, 3820 Macedonia Road
  • Smyrna: Smyrna Community Center, 1250 Powder Springs St.
