Fani Willis to Testify Before State Senate Committee on Trump Prosecution

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has agreed to testify next month before a state Senate investigations committee regarding her prosecution of former President Donald Trump and others, the committee chairman confirmed.
The hearing is scheduled for Nov. 13, and Willis will appear in response to a subpoena. State Sen. Bill Cowsert, the committee’s chairman, said he is currently negotiating with Willis’ attorneys over the scope of the questions she will answer.
“The reason I asked about the Fani Willis investigation is because she has agreed to testify in front of our committee, to honor our subpoena,” Cowsert said.
The committee was established to review Willis’ handling of the prosecution of Trump and other election interference defendants. Willis’ office indicted Trump and others just over two years ago on racketeering and related charges, prompting Trump to surrender at the Fulton County Jail, producing his now-famous mugshot.
Although the prosecution faced delays—including controversies surrounding Willis’ past relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade—the case has progressed under new judicial oversight. Courts have since removed Willis from prosecuting the matter.
Senate Democratic Minority Leader Harold Jones expressed support for the testimony, saying, “I think it’ll be interesting to have her come up here. She’s been the center of attention so much. Should be good for her to actually come and get her side of it, so to speak.”
Willis’ legal team has yet to respond to requests for comment. Her fight over the Senate subpoenas will be considered by the Georgia Supreme Court one week prior to her scheduled testimony.
