The big box retailer, Costco, is expanding its services by stepping into the healthcare game and insurance-strapped shoppers stand to benefit.
Costco is leveling up its membership benefits with the announcement of their partnership with Sesame, a telehealth platform.
Costco will now offer low-cost healthcare options to its 125 million members. This move is aimed at attracting and retaining members, especially those who may be facing challenges with their health insurance coverage by providing their vast membership base with more accessible and affordable healthcare options.
Sesame is known for providing affordable and convenient virtual healthcare services.
Per the news release that Sesame issued earlier this week, Costco members will have access to a selection of options across all 50 states — including $29 telehealth checkups, $79 virtual therapy sessions and $72 lab and panel consultations.
Members will also be able to get 10 percent off all other Sesame services, including in-person appointments, the release added.
Before Costco members can access deals with Sesame, they will need to create an account and verify their Costco membership through their Costco.com account.
David Goldhill, Sesame’s co-founder and CEO said, “Quality, great value and low price are what the Costco brand is known for.” “When it comes to health care, Sesame also delivers high quality and great value – and a low price that will be appreciated by Costco Members when it comes to their own care,” he added.
According to the Sesame Care website, here’s what Costco members can expect:
- $29 telehealth checkups
- $79 virtual therapy sessions
- $72 lab and panel consultations
- 10 percent off all other Sesame services, including in-person appointments.
“Sesame has built a unique health care marketplace, connecting thousands of outpatient healthcare providers covering all 50 United States with American consumers seeking high-quality, convenient medical care at half the price of what is typical,” according to its website.
Costco’s partnership with Sesame reflects a broader trend of retail companies recognizing the potential of the healthcare industry and seeking to provide valuable services to their customer base.
It also addresses the needs of individuals who may be struggling with healthcare costs and insurance coverage. This move by Costco allows them to join other major retailers in offering health care services, including Amazon and Walmart.
