Community leader, business entrepreneur Michael Murphy Announces run for City of Mableton Mayor

Mableton resident Michael Murphy, a community leader, and business entrepreneur announced this week his intentions to run for Mayor in a special election for the newly formed City of Mableton. Candidate qualifying opens this week for a race that will be held on March 21, 2023.

Murphy, who is well known, liked, and respected throughout South Cobb has both community and government experience under his belt having served as a past chair of the Austell Community Task Force and former Special Assistant to the late Cobb County Chairman Mike Boyce. 

Said Murphy in his announcement,  “ I have the experience of dealing with government issues and economic development concerns in changing times and will use these abilities to help provide a vision for a new city as we protect its residents. We have a lot of good people that really care about our community. I want voters to know that I will work hard to make Mableton a place where they are proud to live, work, and raise their children.”

As a concerned citizen and voter, Murphy championed the rights of his fellow citizens to vote on “Cityhood.” As a community leader, he has served on numerous non-profit boards including Vice Chairman for the Board of Directors of the Family Life Restoration Center; a Board member of STAR-C, and President of STING, Inc. 

Murphy is also the recipient of a number of civic awards and honors including the Living the Dream Award, M.L King, Jr. Awardee 2022 of the Cobb County Chapter of the NAACP, and The Drum Major Award 2020 from the Cobb Chapter of SCLC.  In addition to his community work, Murphy is a regular columnist in SPOTLIGHT South Cobb News with his column “Straight from the Mike”. 

Murphy is the owner of M3 Innovations, LLC. In addition to having served in Cobb County government, he is a former Corporate Executive for Ford Motor Company and Dunkin Donuts of America. Murphy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Commerce from St. Louis University and is a proud member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Murphy and his wife Vanessa reside within the Mableton community. He is the father of two adult sons and a loving grandfather of two granddaughters.
