Members of the community are invited to attend Austell’s “State of the Police” address this month as Police Chief Scott Hamilton presents the “vision and direction” of the department moving forward.
Hamilton was hired in August 2022 and became the first Black police chief in Cobb County. A former deputy chief in the Cobb County Police Department, Hamilton began his Law Enforcement career in November 1995 as a uniform patrol officer in Precinct Three. Hamilton’s career with the Cobb County Police Department spanned over two decades.
The event will be held on January 19th at 7:00 p.m. at Austell First United Methodist Church located at 5705 Mulberry Street near the city’s downtown area. Attendees are encouraged to wear face masks during the event.
Hamilton replaced longtime Chief Bob Starrett, who left amid a Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe into paperwork discrepancies in the department’s K-9 unit.
