Cobb Man gets 7 years in prison for molesting 12-year-old girl

The Cobb County District Attorney’s Office announced that 69-year-old Kalem Amin Hasan, was sentenced to 20 years, seven of which to be served in custody, for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

Hasan’s arrest occurred in 2019 after a relative of the victim, who was also Hasan’s roommate, reported the assault to police.

Cobb County prosecutors said the girl told her family member in June of that year that it happened during an overnight visit to their home. The family member immediately confronted Hasan and called the police. Following an investigation and a forensic interview, Hasan was indicted for child molestation in October 2019.

After a three-day trial, the jury deliberated for one hour before returning a guilty verdict against Hasan.

Assistant District Attorney Jared Horowitz said in a statement, “Hasan used darkness and opportunity to carry out his attack on a sleeping, 12-year-old child. I commend the courage of our young survivor who bravely shared her truth with the jury. The jury’s verdict shows this type of behavior should not and will not be tolerated here in Cobb County.”

Cobb County Superior Court Judge Robert D. Leonard sentenced Hasan. After completing his sentence, he will spend 13 years on supervised probation. He cannot have contact with the victim.
