Share

The Cobb County Water System began 2025 with two separate sewer overflows, continuing from a series of spills that took place throughout 2024. Both of the newest incidents resulted in wastewater discharges into local waterways.

  1. Sewer Overflow at 628 River Bend Circle SW, Smyrna (Jan. 2, 2025)
    • Estimated Wastewater Discharged: 710 gallons
    • Affected Waterway: Tributary of Mill Creek
    • Incident Details: A 10-foot by 30-foot trail of wastewater was observed flowing into the tributary.
  2. Sewer Overflow at 1400 Marietta Country Club Drive, Kennesaw (Jan. 3, 2025)
    • Estimated Wastewater Discharged: 120 gallons
    • Affected Waterway: Noonday Creek
    • Incident Details: Wastewater created a 20-foot by 20-foot area and a 5-foot by 60-foot trail. Additionally, a second manhole discharge caused a 10-foot by 80-foot trail into the creek.

Cobb County Water System crews took action to minimize the impact of these overflows by using a jet machine to clear the blockage and treating the area with lime.
