Cobb County Water System Reports Latest Sewage Overflow Impacting Local Creek

Share

The Cobb County Water System continues its sewer overflows for 2025 with another overflow incident which resulted in wastewater discharge into a local waterway.

The Cobb County Water System reported an estimated 1,300 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on Jan. 22. The overflow, resulting from debris, occurred at 3264 Misty Walk NE in Marietta, and discharged into a tributary to Sewell Mill Creek. The Water System was notified of the overflow on Jan. 22 at 10:22 p.m. and the overflow was stopped.

Upon arrival, the crew observed a manhole was holding but not spilling. After using a jet machine and steel poles to unstop the line, the crew spread lime on the affected area. While the crew was attempting to clear the blockage, the clean-out at the customer’s location began to spill with an unsecured lid. The escaping sewage left a 2-foot by 25-foot path, entering the tributary. During their time on-site, no fish kills were observed.
