Clayton native named to lead MARTA’s board of directors

Kathryn “Katie” Powers, a resident of Clayton County, is set to become the incoming chairwoman of MARTA’s board of directors in January, marking the first time someone from Clayton County will lead the transit agency’s governing body. Powers was named the new chairwoman, succeeding outgoing board chairman Thomas Worthy.

Jennifer Ide, a representative from the city of Atlanta, serving as vice chairwoman. Al Pond was appointed as secretary, and Rod Frierson as treasurer.

Expressing gratitude for her nomination, Powers, a lifelong resident of Clayton County, highlighted her dedication to advancing the progress of MARTA in the community she and her family call home.

The announcement came during MARTA’s monthly meeting on Thursday, where the outgoing chairman Worthy expressed his appreciation and hope that he had made a positive impact during his tenure. He also looked forward to the continuation of the essential work of overseeing MARTA’s public transportation system under the new leadership.
