CDC: Curly Mustard Greens Recalled Due to Listeria Contamination

The Georgia Department of Agriculture has announced a recall of 16-ounce bags of curly mustard greens produced by Baker Farms due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The product, sold to distribution centers in nine states, including Georgia, is being recalled out of an abundance of caution.

The recalled greens were packed on November 4 and distributed between November 5 and November 9. On November 29, the Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed that a sample labeled with a November 11 best-by date tested positive for Listeria.

Health Risks of Listeria

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups, including:

  • High-risk populations: Young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
  • Pregnant women: Risk of miscarriage or stillbirth.
  • Healthy adults: Possible short-term symptoms such as fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Consumer Instructions

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product are urged not to consume it. Instead, they should discard the product or return it to the store for a full refund.
