Attorney Yashica Marshall officially qualified today to run for Cobb County Commissioner for District 4. The longtime Cobb County resident and practicing attorney enters the race with a focus on addressing critical local issues that citizens have consistently raised concerns about, including infrastructure challenges, housing affordability, property tax reform, and a commitment to transparency and accountability—qualities she believes have been lacking under the current officeholder.
A serious candidate for this office, Marshall wants District 4 voters to understand her deep commitment to uplifting the community and is resolute in her stance that her candidacy is about serving the people, not herself. To demonstrate her dedication, Marshall has pledged to donate her entire first year’s salary as commissioner to help resolve the longstanding issues that have plagued District 4. This gesture underscores Marshall’s unwavering focus on making a meaningful difference for the people she represents, ensuring that the community’s needs are prioritized over personal gain.
Marshall and her husband reside in Mableton. She holds a BS, MS, and JD degrees. She currently serves as a Privacy Officer and Associate General Counsel for a state agency. Her professional background also includes experience in corporate America and as a hospital director. Emphasizing her dedication to community-driven solutions, Marshall highlights her proven track record of public service and her vision of putting the needs of residents first, prioritizing people over political self-interest.
“My candidacy is about offering the people of District 4 a real choice—one rooted in accountability, transparency, and a dedication to improving our communities,” Marshall said. “It’s time to focus on the issues that matter to everyday families, including how taxpayer funds are being spent. Once elected, I will ensure Cobb County is accountable to the people and remains a place we are proud to call home.”
Marshall’s platform will also focus on maintaining Cobb’s suburban quality of life, addressing long-standing issues like flooding and inflated property assessments, and resisting burdensome tax increases and fees.”
Marshall is challenging the current incumbent, citing concerns over violation of the Georgia Constitution when members voted to create a Home Rule map to keep a colleague in office and the pricetag assocaited with this illegal effort: lack of innovative policies; outward hostility and disdain toward citizens vopiving their concerns about county governement; and a disconnect from the community. “The current officeholder has taken advantage of our citizens and community. They are too comfortable spending taxpayer money without bringing forward new ideas,” Marshall said. “They’ve lost touch with the people they represent, and in some cases, they’ve even become arrogant or hostile to criticism. Hubris is not a good quality in a leader, and it makes incumbents forget that they represent the people at all times.”
Marshall’s candidacy reflects a growing demand for energized leadership, with communities seeking representatives who are responsive to local challenges and forward-thinking in their approach.
Yashica’s Statement on her Candidacy:

“Having called Cobb County home for over a decade, my family and I have experienced moments of historic progress – but that progress has been overshadowed by the ongoing poor decision-making of our current Board of Commissioners. This negative reality has inspired me to step forward and offer the people of District 4 a real choice for leadership—a choice rooted in integrity, transparency, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of our community.
My diverse professional background uniquely equips me to tackle the challenges our district and our county faces. From my work as a substance abuse counselor and hospital director to serving as a compliance director in corporate America, and now as the Privacy Officer and Associate General Counsel for a state agency, my career reflects a lifetime of dedication to serving people and solving complex problems. I understand the pressing issues that have been neglected by the current administration:
- Poor infrastructure leading to frequent flooding.
- A lack of affordable housing solutions for essential workers.
- Overinflated property assessments resulting in higher taxes for residents.
Instead of addressing these concerns that impact your family and mine, the Board has focused on frivolous litigation, failed referendums, and self-serving actions. As your next District 4 Commissioner, I will prioritize solutions that protect your economic well-being, address long-neglected issues, and preserve the safe, peaceful suburban lifestyle that defines Cobb County—a community we all cherish.
I come from a proud family with a long tradition of military service. My grandfather, an Army veteran, was awarded a Purple Heart, and both my father and sister also served in the Army. Additionally, my aunt and her husband recently retired from the Navy after more than 40 years of service. These values of dedication, discipline, and service have guided me throughout my life.
Building on my family’s legacy, I have earned multiple degrees (JD, MS, BS) and combined my education with a strong commitment to community leadership. As an entrepreneur, I own a sports league, and as a community advocate, I serve on the board of directors for a nonprofit organization. This blend of personal, professional, and civic experience fuels my passion for public service.
Together, with your support and your vote, we can ensure that Cobb County remains a thriving, vibrant community for generations to come. My message to the citizens of Cobb County is clear: It’s time to move beyond the harmful decisions and negative policies of the past four years. If you share my belief that our district and county deserve better, I invite you to join my campaign for change. Go to my website to learn more about me and how you can help. Together, we can create a brighter future for District 4 and all of the citizens of Cobb County.”
