Austell Doctor arrested again, accused of assault

Share

Melvin Perry Cobb, a pediatrician practicing in Austell, was arrest for the second time in two years on charges of assault. Perry, a 55-year-old resident of Mableton, is the proprietor of Total Care Pediatrics in Austell.

Cobb County Police Department alleges that Perry engaged in aggressive behavior towards a female medical worker attempting to draw his blood on the morning of December 14 at Kaiser Permanente West Cobb Medical Center.

According to the warrant, Dr. Perry refused the blood draw, blocked the worker from leaving when she threatened to call security, and made threatening statements, including expressing an intent to harm her. Perry allegedly blocked the door for a period of two to three minutes, using offensive language and asserting control over her movement. The police accuse Perry of aggressive behavior and threatening the worker.

A witness at the scene intervened, holding back Perry. He was subsequently arrested the next day by Cobb police and released on a $4,000 bond a few hours later. Perry faces charges of felony false imprisonment and three misdemeanors: simple assault, criminal trespass, and terroristic threats.

This incident marks Dr. Perry’s second encounter with the law in recent years. In July 2022, he was arrested for reportedly assaulting a paramedic during an argument about the care of a child. In that incident, Perry engaged in a dispute with the paramedic, resulting in physical violence and obstruction of emergency medical personnel.
