Audit of South Fulton Police Department Finds Outdated Policies, Toxic Work Environment

Share

SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — A 65-page audit of the South Fulton Police Department has uncovered outdated policies, a toxic workplace culture, and areas in need of significant reform, according to the report released Thursday.

The audit evaluated the department’s operations, personnel practices, and policy compliance. Investigators found that several key policies have not been updated in years, contributing to confusion among staff and inconsistent enforcement.

The report also highlights a workplace culture marked by low morale, strained leadership relationships, and internal friction, which it describes as “toxic” and in need of immediate attention.

Among the recommendations, the audit calls for:

  • Updating and standardizing department policies and procedures
  • Implementing improved training and professional development programs
  • Establishing stronger internal oversight and accountability mechanisms
  • Addressing workplace culture issues to improve morale and retention

City officials have pledged to review the findings and implement the recommendations to strengthen department operations and ensure public trust.

“The safety and well-being of both our officers and the community are our top priorities,” a city spokesperson said. “We are committed to making the changes necessary to bring the department’s policies and culture up to modern standards.”

The audit comes amid increased scrutiny of police departments nationwide and represents an effort by South Fulton officials to proactively identify and correct internal issues.
