Atlanta’s philanthropic figure, Tyler Perry, has extended a generous hand to actress Cocoa Brown, offering a $400,000 donation after her Fayetteville home tragically burned down a week ago. Brown and her son Phoenix narrowly escaped the blaze, which took three hours for the fire department to bring under control, resulting in the complete loss of their residence.
Tyler Perry’s substantial donation comes as a significant relief to Brown, who, in addition to Perry’s contribution, has received support through a GoFundMe page initiated by a friend. The GoFundMe campaign has garnered over $73,000 to aid Brown in rebuilding her life from scratch. The page describes Brown as a “beacon of joy” through her comedy and highlights the daunting road ahead that she and her son must navigate.
Apart from Perry’s noteworthy contribution, other notable figures, including actors Tiffany Haddish, Sherri Shepherd, and Marlon Wayans, as well as media mogul Byron Allen, owner of the Atlanta-based Weather Channel cable network, have also contributed to the GoFundMe campaign.
Cocoa Brown, known for her roles in Tyler Perry’s projects, played Jennifer in 162 episodes of Perry’s OWN sitcom “For Better or Worse” from 2011 to 2017 and starred in Perry’s film “The Single Moms Club” in 2014.
Perry, recognized for his philanthropic endeavors, has a history of making substantial donations to individuals and organizations, both publicly and privately.. Last year, he provided $25,000 to a family after learning that their plumbing work van had been stolen. Perry has also donated $2.75 million to support poorer, older homeowners in Atlanta, ensuring they can remain in their homes. Additionally, during the early stages of the pandemic in 2020, Perry gave $500 tips to 42 out-of-work servers at Houston’s in Atlanta.
