Advance Voting Starts October 15th for the November 5, 2024, General Election

Georgia citizens can begin voting in the upcoming general election starting Tuesday, October 15, with early in-person voting available until Friday, November 1.

As a Georgia voter, you can cast your ballot at any location within your registered county. To check your voter registration status, visit the Georgia My Voter Page: https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/.

To request an absentee ballot, visit the secure portal: https://securemyabsenteeballot.sos.ga.gov/s/.

Important Election Dates

  • Last day to register to vote: Monday, October 7
  • Early in-person voting: Tuesday, October 15 – Friday, November 1
  • Last day to request an absentee ballot: Friday, October 25
  • Election Day: Tuesday, November 5
  • Runoff Election (if needed): Tuesday, December 3

Voting Options

  • Voter Registration: Register online on the Secretary of State’s website or check your registration status on the My Voter Page.
  • Absentee Voting: Available to all eligible Georgia voters. However, absentee ballots are not automatically sent out—you must request one.
  • Early Voting: You can vote early at any polling location in your county during the early voting period.
  • Election Day Voting: Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. Remember to bring a valid photo ID.

Recent Voting Changes in Georgia

  • A 2024 law allows election officials to remove voters from the rolls up to 45 days before the election if their eligibility is successfully challenged.
  • A 2023 law allows workers to take up to two hours off to vote during early voting, previously allowed only on Election Day.
  • Redrawn congressional and state legislative district maps, approved in December 2023, could change district boundaries and affect your ballot.
  • A 2021 voting law introduced new ID requirements for mail ballots, shortened the absentee voting window, and added regulations for drop boxes.

Registering to Vote

  • Deadline: The deadline to register for the November election is Monday, October 7.
  • How to Register: You can register online through the Secretary of State’s Online Voter Registration System, by mail, by phone, or in person at your county election office or any Georgia Department of Driver Services office.



Absentee Ballot Requests

Any eligible voter can request an absentee ballot starting Monday, August 19. The last day to request one is Friday, October 25. You can request your ballot online, by mail, by phone, or in person at your county election office. Absentee ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on November 5 to be counted.
