Share

After publicly being named a suspect in the death of a 20-year-old man who was shot Easter Sunday in a LaGrange neighborhood, 13-year-old Jayden Gunsby was arrested and faces a charge of murder as an adult.

Warrants were issued for the young boy’s arrest April 12, one day after the victim, 20-year-old Davaris Lindsey died of his injuries.

Just before midnight last Monday, Gunsby was placed in handcuffs at a police department in the community near the Alabama border. He was arrested “without incident,” according to police who has released few details about the killing or motive.

Officers found Lindsey suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on April 9 in a mostly residential area in the central part of the city. He was taken to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center before the severity of his injuries required him to be transferred to another trauma hospital. Lindsey died the next day. As a result, the case was upgraded to murder.

The police department released Gunsby’s name and photo and asked for the public’s help to locate him. Following his arrest, Gunsby was expected to be booked into a regional youth detention facility.

In Georgia, 13 is the minimum age for criminal prosecution. If Gunsby is convicted as an adult, he could face life in prison.

Lindsey’s death remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Troup County 911, the LaGrange Police Department at 706-883- 2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
