Two men receive 10 years for Mableton armed robbery
The Cobb District Attorney’s Office said a 2021 armed robbery in Mableton led to two men pleading guilty and being sentenced to 10 years in prison after a negotiated plea.
Superior Court Judge Angela Brown accepted the plea for Leonunte Ramon Carson, 20, of Atlanta, and Ahday Nelson, 23, of Lithonia, sentencing both to 10 years in prison, to be followed by 10 years on probation.
Prosecutors say that police responded to a call about an armed robbery in a residential neighborhood in Mableton on Feb. 4, 2021. When they arrived, they found the victim with a lacerated eye.
She was picking up a friend’s mail when three men drove up in a Dodge Challenger and got out of the vehicle. While two of the men held her down, the third pointed a gun at her. She was then struck with the gun multiple times in the face before the men took her wallet, backpack and iPhone and fled.
They led police on a high-speed chase before crashing the Challenger. The three men then fled on foot and climbed a concrete barrier. One of the fleeing men was struck and killed by a vehicle. Nelson called for a rideshare service and left the scene, but was later apprehended by the police. Carson was later arrested in south Georgia.
While in court, the victim described the impact the crime has had on her saying, “These men were predators, and I was their prey. I was completely paralyzed by fear. I thought I might even lose my life.”Judge Brown said to the defendants, “You have scarred someone for the rest of their life. I hope that you will take the time to think about what you’ve done.”
