Turner Chapel donates $9K to pay outstanding school lunch balances

Share

With funds generously raised among its members, Turner Chapel A.M.E. Church has created a new funding initiative to help students of Marietta City and Cobb County school systems pay outstanding balances for their lunch tabs that are in arrears.

In launching this initiative, church leaders recognized that many families experience hardship staying current with student lunch accounts and are doing something about it.

In support of these impacted students, Turner’s Sons of Allen Men’s ministry launched its first Student Lunch Program initiative, as a part of its 2023 Annual Men’s Day celebration. The newly created program was designed to ensure that students begin the new school year with no past-due accounts.

Turner Chapel, located at  492 North Marietta Parkway in Marietta, announced that it has donated $4,500 out of a total of $9,000. The church will continue to work with school administrators to disburse the remaining $4,500 before the new school year begins.

Schools were selected based on the church’s affiliation with “Partners in Education” and its Iron Sharpens Iron Male Mentoring Academy.

Two Marietta City schools were allocated for the funds: Lockheed Elementary and Marietta Middle School. Three Cobb County schools also received funds: McClure Middle, Smitha Middle, and Hollydale Elementary.
